Time is a waste of money.

Let’s start this one off with a cheesy one-liner: time waits for no man, woman, or anyone else in this world of flying seconds and even faster hours.

It can’t be bought, reused, or redone. Once it’s happened, it’s happened; quickly becoming a memory we can fondly look back on, or not as the case may potentially be.

I’m writing from the perspective of being present in time, which isn’t always easy. If you’re a lunatic like myself, you’re always planning ahead; plotting and scheming to the next goal, objective, trainer purchase, or outing to have. But what happens if I were to stop, and just be?

Can you do that? I can’t always. It’s a struggle, as the imposter or guilty conscience in your head is demanding you to do more, learn more, be more, a hundred miles an hour, all day, every day. Frantic, and frenetic, fit everything in, squeeze, and seize the time in front of you.

Always and forever, amen.

It’s a frustration — the daily battle of being happy with where you are, and the aspiration to where you want, or in some cases feel the need, to be. But how many of us stop to look back and see how far we’ve come, and what’s going on right now, rather than what’s going on later? I’d hazard a guess the number would be very low.

Now I’m with child, my conflicted stance of being in the moment, yet trying to fight my way to create a dreamy future is here like never before.

But when I break it down to what matters, it feels pretty simple to me. More simple than it’s ever felt.

Work, opportunities, outings, things to buy, drinks to drink, places to be, and people to see — these things will always be there.

My child being so little won’t be.

It’s black and white. Michael Jackson was right all along (the dad jokes are in full flow). Having a daughter has made me feel calmer, more content, and just at peace with being here, right now, writing this, sofa sleeping, home chilling, or generally just spending time not doing ‘anything’ with time.

Becoming a parent hasn’t made me any less ambitious. If anything quite the opposite; I’m gonna’ conquer the world, one sentence at a time. I just like to think I’ve learnt or am learning to have a bit of patience with it.

Not everything needs to be done right here, right now. Of course, planning ahead and starting things in prep for the next steps is always good practice. But just because I/we haven’t written a book or created something in the timeframe we pressured ourselves to stick to, doesn’t mean it’s a failure.

The most important thing is being mentally present with family, friends, and making the most of the situations we’re in when we’re in them. Because we’ll never be in them again.

It might feel like we are and will be, but it’ll never be exactly the same. Never ever.

Time is a waste of money — it can’t be bought back.

On that priceless note, I’m gonna’ go attempt to be present in the right here of today. And let my wife know my presence is a present, and that I’m absolutely present to tell her about it.

Stay balanced people. We’ll never be as young as we are right now.
